Cirrus airplanes are uniquely designed from the parachute outward. Developed by Cirrus and BRS™, CAPS is a rocket-deployed 55-foot (17 m) parachute that provides an extra margin of safety to Cirrus pilots and passengers in the unlikely event of an emergency. Normally hidden beneath the sleek surface of the airframe, strong Kevlar straps are ready to suspend the entire airplane beneath the canopy. Once the overhead handle is pulled by the pilot or passenger, the parachute lowers the airplane and its occupants to the ground.
